Pregnancy photography: Martin and Lizelle Venter

I Love doing location photography, and if it is on a beautiful location as the Polo Estate Val de Vie,then so much the better. Lizelle and Martin took me to their horses just before Martin had to leave for a game of Polo. Lizelle and I headed back to their exquisite house to take some more pics...

Trash the dress: Le Roux and Ilse

My first trash the dress session! Le Roux and Ilse got married in the Gauteng 11 months ago and then decided to fly down to Cape Town for a photo-session at the sea. They contacted me and I decided to take them to the beautiful Llandudno- and Sandy beaches. Although a beautiful day in Cape Town, the wind nearly blew us away!! Thanks for the brave couple to enter the icy water!

Wedding: Glynn and Zenobia

On another very hot summer's day Glynn and Zenobia got married between the lovely mountains of Paarl and Franchhoek at Backsberg Wine Estate. Everything was done to the finest detail and no stone was left unturned. It was one of those weddings where I didn't want to leave and my life is again blessed after meeting this couple. Well done on a beautfully planned wedding!

Wedding: Jan Willem and Demishelle

This beautiful couple got married at Groenrivier wedding venue in Riebeek West. It was of coarse a VERY hot day, but Demishelle kept her pose in that stunning dress!!

Choosing a wedding photographer: 5 top tips

Choosing  a wedding photographer is an important element of preparing your dream day.  With so many styles of wedding photography and different packages offered by various photographers, brides will be forgiven for feeling overwhelmed by the decision. Here is a quick guide to the most important things to consider when you are comparing wedding photographers.

What does wedding photography cost?
For most brides, wedding budgeting is a constant compromise between what you feel you can't live without and what you can afford. Depending on the importance you place on wedding photos as a lasting reminder of the day you said "I do", you might want to allocate a larger part of your budget to the photographer. Experts suggest wedding photography usually takes up 10% of the total wedding budget. Once you have established your budget, the most important thing is to find a wedding photographer who offers value for money (not necessarily the cheapest!).

Get a shortlist of potential wedding photographers
Most wedding photographers have websites, so it is easy for brides-to-be to browse the work of various photographers. This way, you will get a feel for the kind of wedding photography you like, for example traditional, reporter style or more artistic. Search for a wedding photographer who works in the region where you are getting married. Whittle the candidates down to a handful and find out if they are available on your planned wedding date. If they are, meet them in person if possible or speak to them over the phone.

Interview potential wedding photographers
Photographers only put a fraction of their work on their website or portfolio, so ask to see an example of a complete wedding, so you are not basing your decision only on the best shots. Ask them about their qualifications, experience and camera equipment, as this may add to your peace of mind. It is also important to know whether your wedding photographer will bring an assistant along, how they both will be dressed (as you want someone who looks professional) and how long it takes them to edit and deliver photos after the wedding day.

Wedding photography packages
Wedding photographers usually offer a range of standard packages, but most are also willing to make up a customised package and supply a special quote to suit individual couples' needs. It is important to ask how many prints and enlargements will be supplied, whether you will receive a CD with high-res images for reprints and whether an engagement photography shoot (also called a pre-wedding shoot) is included. And get your wedding photography quote in writing.

Booking your wedding photographer
Once you have decided on your wedding photographer, get in touch with them as soon as possible to book them. Most wedding photographers will require a deposit to be paid before the booking is confirmed. Get your confirmation in writing, book your engagement photography shoot and leave the rest up to the professionals!
